Alexis O. Grant wins NAACP State Title – Woman of the Year 2019-20

Columbia, SC – Alexis Oveta Grant is the new South Carolina Conference of Branches NAACP Woman of the Year 2019-2020. She first served as the Columbia Branch Woman of the year and went on to win the state contest. Ms. Grant is a paralegal for the criminal defense attorney Jonathan S. Chaplin Esq. and serves as a Cryptologic Technician Petty Officer First Class in the U.S. Navy Reserves. She also is a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem for the Richland County CASA.

Her passion in life is to be an advocate for those who are not able to speak up for themselves for lack of knowledge and or resources. As the chair of the Young Adult Committee of the NAACP, she desires to affect change in the community specifically young adults, that stimulates an immediate impact while contributing to positive change. The visions closest to her heart are to help small businesses thrive and change the food droughts in the urban and rural communities through education and empowerment.

Alexis’ motto is “You must be the change that you wish to see in the world.” (Mahatma Ghandi) As she serves as the NAACP Woman of the Year 2019-2020, she takes this motto into the community to embody the catalyst of change that she desires to be.
